COVID-19
A Pot Luck Chance
I’ve been running but the Covid-19 virus caught up with me.
--
When the pandemic hit the world in 2020 I dreaded getting Covid-19. I went into panic mode and followed a strict regime. It included social distancing, wearing a mask, and sanitizing my hands frequently like a man possessed.
On the 30th March 2022, my teddy bear Harry wrote a story entitled “Dad’s Covid-19 Paranoia.” His story was taking the mickey about my disinfecting protocol due to people testing positive in our shared accommodation complex.
In 2022, Germany abolished wearing masks in public. It caused some frustration as people thought it was a dangerous situation to be in. I decided to follow suit and retired my mask to the shelf. That being said, now and then the mask came out of hiding when needed to travel on public transport.
When I relocated to Brazil I got used to not wearing a mask in public and thought: “Hey, I’m not going to let paranoia rule my life again.” I have been running for too long. I decided to be careful, but not to the verge of being obsessed.
I enjoyed my first 15 days in São Paulo exploring my local neighborhood. The only drawback of my endeavors was that I suffered a bit from sinusitis. This is due to pollution and building construction dust in my residential area.
Yesterday afternoon, my sinuses complained loudly. All stuffy with a splitting headache, and a slight fever. On the off-chance that it might not be sinusitis, I did a Covid-19 test after school.
Alas, I tested positive. Not an ideal situation for a newly appointed staff member to be in at the start of a new school year. Luckily, it’s early days, and only a couple of staff are in school. I have to self-isolate for a week.
My colleagues are very supportive. I received a bag of goodies this evening with chocolates and all. I will tough this one out enjoying my chocolates and hope to be functioning again at top speed soon.
