A Great Life Lesson Learned From My Dad At Age 7
Don’t steal or take anything not belonging to you.
I always loved reading. I thank Mrs. Behrens my grade 1 teacher for evoking my passion for reading. So much so that it got me in trouble at age 7. Bad, boy Jay surfaced when he didn’t get his way.
I accompanied my dad frequently on his visits to friends and the supermarket. The book section in the supermarket was my favorite hang-out place. This annoyed my dad as he wasn’t fond of shopping. It also meant Jay wants him to buy another book.
On one of our supermarket visits, I saw a book I passionately wanted. I begged my dad to buy the book for me. His reply was, “No, Jay, not today.” I knew not to argue or throw a tantrum. Been there, done that. It doesn’t work.
I wanted the book badly and devised a plan — the emergence of bad boy Jay.
When my dad rounded the corner I slipped the book under my shirt. Yes, you read that correctly I stole the book. Nervously, I went through the processes of queuing and paying with my dad. What if I get caught?
When we reached the car without any problem I sat in the back seat. This action must have tipped my dad off that something was wrong because I loved sitting in the front.
