Bonfire Bliss
Celebration of summer approaching — a free verse short poem
Belthane or Cétamain
first day of May Celebration
in Scotland and Ireland Celtic folklore tradition.
Summer’s officially here
Cattle cleansed between raging bonfires battles
mysterious-magically disease defense before summer pasture promise.
An internal bonfire
is needed in me to blissfully burn away
cobweb taunting-troubles so laughter and loving light memories remain.
Information in the first two stanzas of the poem is from the Britannica Website in an article titled Belthane Ancient Celtic festival.
The Beltane festival is held on the first day of May in Ireland and Scotland. It celebrates the beginning of summer. Other festivities celebrating the arrival of summer are Maypole dances and the “cutting of green boughs and flowers.”

This poem was inspired by A-Word-A-Day prompts for May 2022 — Day 01 (Belthane) published in Promptly Written. Thanks, Christine.
