Brigadeiros: A Chocolate Explosion!
A Brazilian chocolate fudge ball recipe. It’s very chocolatey!
Do you like chocolate fudge melting in your mouth creating a chocolate explosion on your taste buds? Well, then you must try a Brigadeiro fudge ball or two.
A Brigadeiro is made from sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and butter. They are formed into balls and rolled in chocolate sprinkles.
I was introduced to Brigadeiros earlier this week and it was the beginning of a chocolate love affair. I will definitely include them on the menu when I entertain friends.
Ingredients:
1 can condensed milk (397g)
4 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
2 tablespoon butter
dash of salt
chocolate sprinkles (a cup, for decoration)
Process:
1. Combine the condensed milk, butter, and cacao powder in a thick bottom pot and heat over medium heat. Stir the mixture frequently to ensure the mixture is evenly heated.
2. The mixture will begin to thicken. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting while stirring to avoid it burning.
3. The mixture will thicken to the point where it begins to stick together. It will have the consistency of dough. Remove from the heat.
4. Transfer the thickened mixture into a greased glass dish and let rest in the fridge or freezer for about 1 hour.
Making the Brigadeiro balls:
1. Pour the chocolate sprinkles into a bowl.
2. Grease your hands with a bit of butter to avoid the fudge mixture sticking to your hands when forming the balls.
3. Scoop a tablespoon of the chocolate fudge mixture into your hand and roll to form a ball.
4. Roll the chocolate fudge ball in the chocolate sprinkles till evenly covered. Place it into a small cupcake paper cup.
5. Refrigerate till you serve them. Brigadeiros will last about 5 days in the fridge.
This recipe was shared with me by a Brazilian friend in Sao Paulo. Thanks, Marcos.
