Creamy Potato Casserole

This oven-baked creamy and cheesy potato casserole is a tasty side dish for any occasion. My family in South Africa, serve it as a side dish at a barbeque or on a cold winter night.
The recipe combines potatoes, cream, cheese, and herbs. The different individual tastes of the ingredients combine to create a hearty dish.
Potato slices peeled, or with the skin on if you prefer, are layered in an oven-baking proof dish with a creamy onion, garlic, and herbs sauce. A golden, cheese crust forms the topping.
Ingredients:
8 potatoes cut into 1 cm thick slices
2 large onions cut into slices
2 garlic cloves minced
250 ml fresh cream
125 ml milk
1 tablespoon butter
A dash of mustard powder
1 teaspoon Italian herb seasoning
125ml grated Cheddar cheese
salt and pepper to taste
