Free To Be Me

Breaking away from power games is empowering.

You’ve used chains to tie me to you
physical and emotional word-chains
to control me.

Invisible chains snaking through me
words, looks, and snide little remarks
your iron-chain-choice.

Symbols of control are powerful tools
a hand plane shaving one’s self-worth
smoothing it to your will.

Scorching, red-hot dripping sarcasm,
a flame, molding a will to suit needs
your chain-control game.

It was breaking me apart that I couldn’t be me
so therefore I set myself free to be me — Oh, yes!
Free from your control.

Freedom because I’m worthy to be me;
Freedom because I can live life my way
without your control.

Breaking free from you empowered me
A nuclear fission reaction to harness my
internal power.

I am, me — free to be who I want to be.
I am, free — to embrace and love myself.
I am, perfectly — me.
