We have wonderful childhood memories that trigger nostalgia. It can be as simple as the smell of our favorite food or treat.

For me, it is the smell of boerewors (Farmer’s sausage) cooking in a pan on the hob or a barbeque.

A one-line poem that creates tons of memories:

The aromatic smell of boerewors sizzling feather-tickles my brain.

South Africans enjoy a braai (barbeque) and look for any excuse to have one regularly.

We barbeque a variety of meat cuts such as steak, ribs, and marinated fish or chicken.

In my family, a braai is not a braai, if there aren’t boerewors too.

Boerewors is made using a mixture of coarsely grounded beef and pork. A variety of spices (allspice, coriander, cloves, nutmeg) are added.

The spices in boerewors release an aromatic smell when cooking and gives it a unique flavour. It tickles my brain to remember fantastic happy times with family and friends.
