Keep It Green

A Tanka Poem for Earth Day 2022.

I believe that recycling is a sustainable option to reduce and reuse our waste. By doing so we are investing in the future of our planet and children relieving the burden on our Earth — our Home.

Keep It Green— A Tanka Poem
Our Earth our planet,
sky, and oceans azure blue.
Pollution nightmares,
trashing our children’s futures.
Invest — Recycle — Protect.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle is part of the 3R environmental sustainability campaign taught in secondary geography and environmental studies. A phrase my students and I discussed on many occasions.

Reduce refers to ensuring we reduce the amount of waste we produce in households, businesses, and industries. For example, only buy what you need of an item or shop smartly by buying items you could reuse again.

Reuse items before replacing them with another article. One can reuse a water bottle by refilling it with water from home instead of chucking it away.

Recycling is about separating waste items by sorting them. Many countries have recycling bins for example paper, plastic, glass, etc.
