Grey Skies

Waking up to a dreary grey sky this morning painted a sad picture in my mind.

German language words or phrases are sometimes very literal in their meaning. I learned the word “Kopfkino” from my German colleagues. It literally means “head cinema” in English.

A “Kopfkino” creates a movie playing in our minds on how events will happen. It can be fun. For example, you see funny images in your mind about how someone will react when you organize a surprise birthday party for them.

On the other hand, it could also be images looping in your mind detailing how a dramatic or traumatic event might happen.

Waking up this morning at 09:00, I was surprised to be greeted by a dark cloudy sky. I had an unpleasant “Kopfkino” playing in my mind when I popped my head through the window on how this dreary day will unfold.

I sat down and wrote the poem “Grey Skies” below based on the “Kopfkino” playing in my mind.

Grey Skies

Dark shades sky with subtle greyscale nuances
ominous cumulonimbus clouds on the horizon
dragons blasting ice and thundering fire light.
