Majestic Rover

A Word-A- Day prompts March 2022

Wildlife of the Kruger Park bushveld,
abundant in its beauty and nostalgia it held,
of trips at sunrise in a jeep with pan flute music,
playing in the background — broken dry withered trees a runic
in the sky tinted shades of orange and rose pink.

A tail at both ends the one longer than the other,
the wise old elephant with a leathery crinkled skin stands tall,
big craggy ears to flap away little bugs looking for a place to feed and cover, likes to eat Marula fruit — pale yellow and small —
causing a tipsy swaying crawl due to a hangover.

The most graciously majestic slow-walker of them all,
a never-forget-you memory, so they say, a colossal giant-rover.

This poem is inspired by a Word-A-Day prompt for March 2022 — Day 19 (Wildlife). Thank you Christine Graves.
