My aunt used to bake a moist orange cake with a sauce made from orange juice poured over the baked cake. The cake is sweet and does not need cake frosting. It has a subtle hint of citrus flavors.

Below is a recipe for a small cake. Important note: Let the cake cool and settle for about 20–25 minutes before you pour the sauce over it.

Sponge Cake Ingredients:

3 eggs, whipped
1.5 cups of all-purpose flour
1.5 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of milk
50 grams of butter
a pinch of salt

Process:

  1. Bring milk and butter to boiling point. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Whip eggs and sugar well.
  3. Sieve flour, baking powder, and salt together. Add to the egg mixture and mix through.
  4. Add the milk mixture a bit at a time and mix well.
  5. Line a small baking tin or bread pan with greased baking paper. Add the batter and shake it slightly to even the batter out in the tin.
