A phrase about delight:

A magic colourful carpet ride on petite petals in a dusty dry desert.

Namakwaland is a hot and arid region stretching from the west coast of Namibia into the western parts of South Africa about 500 Km north of Cape Town. The vegetation of the area is classified as Thornveld.

Thornveld vegetation consists of vegetation adapted to survive dry areas such as drought-resistant bushes, desert scrub, and thorny Acacia trees.

The average rainfall for the area is less than 200 mm per year. Most of the rain falls during the short Spring season in August and September. It takes only a bit of rainwater to transform the area into an abundant colourful magic flower wonderland.

The dried-out seeds lay dormant for a year in the soil waiting for the rainwater to create a colourful flower superbloom revolution. It shouts out: “Here I am, I am alive! Look at how beautiful and magnificent I am.”

People flock in their thousands to Namakwaland in the Spring to see the beautiful flowers in bloom.
