One line poem: Happiness is …
enjoying Turkish Kunefe with mascarpone cream
Sticky sweetness melting on your tongue tickling taste bud memories.
I’m on a long weekend break away in Essen, Germany. I had Kunefe for dessert after dinner at one of my favorite Turkish restaurants in the city. It brought back many wonderful memories.
When I lived in Istanbul I was introduced to Kunefe and fell in love with this unique dessert. It is made with syrup, cheese, and Kadaif noodles (thin noodles made from flour and water).
When you eat Kunefe for the first time the sweetness from the syrup versus the melty saltiness from the cheese causes a taste bud confusion.
Kunefe is roasted in a metal dish on the grill or in an oven. It is topped with a generous helping of double thick cream, mascarpone cream or ice cream (my version).
