Piano Lessons: My Teenage Maestro Dreams

Was my piano teacher’s advice about my piano playing skills, a kind or a harsh life lesson?

As a teenager, I enrolled in piano lessons at school. Excitement bubbled over.

In my dreams, I could see myself on stage. A piano maestro performing splendidly. “Aha, what a dream vision.”

Fast forward… Six months later…

My piano teacher decided to have a progress chat with me after a lesson.

“Jay, you read the notes well. Keep time reasonably ok, and can play the notes.” The maestro in me was pleased to hear this statement.

“There is only one problem. Jay, you can’t do these 3 things at the same time. Sorry, piano lessons are not for you!”

Dream shattered.

I wasn’t sure how to interpret my piano teacher’s advice. Was she being kind, letting me go gently? Or was it a harsh way to end my piano dreams?

I believe that she let me down gently as she was a nice person. At least she was honest.

Were your dreams as an artist or musician ever shattered by someone else? If so, let me know in the comments.
