Poetry writing: What did my first written poem do for me?

Yesterday, I wrote my first poem titled ‘Unemployed, oh no!’ not realizing the impact it will have on my life.

Change-of-mind

Poetry,
I did not like at school.
It seemed so flowery, elegant, academic,
and inaccessible — definitely, way too unknown cool
for a wee-try-to-impress-my-friends-to-fit-in teenage boy like me.

Writing poetry,
for the first time, yesterday changed how I feel
about life-changing-spiralling-out-of-control emotional events.
Writing poetry released an overwhelming, vice-like-grip burden
choking you snail-slow to surrender, obliviousness and unbearable numbness.

Poetry — a reflection and expression tool:
helped to heal because a stranger understood,
feeling the pain and uncertainty by walking in your shoes -
You probably don’t know how much your comment inspired and uplifted me.

Conversely, I unintentionally,
discovered that poetry is pretty cool
for a wee-grey-goatee old man like me.
