The way mom made it — no change to the recipe over the years.

Sago pudding is a sweet pudding mom used to serve for dessert. She made it by combining sago pearls with milk, sugar, and an apricot jam topping.

I like to alter a recipe by adding a bit of this and a bit of that to enhance the recipe to my taste. However, I made this recipe many times over the years for myself and my friends. It did not require a change over the years at all — it’s perfection in my humble opinion.

Ingredients:

500 ml milk
50 ml cream
100 grams of sago pearls
5 ml Vanilla essence
2 eggs separated
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons apricot jam
4 tablespoons sugar
a dash of salt

Process:

  1. Cover the sago pearls with water and soak for 15 minutes.
  2. Bring milk, cream, sugar, salt, and butter to boiling point.
  3. Drain the soaking sago and add to the cooking milk mixture.
  4. Reduce heat to low and cook till sago pearls are translucent.
