I just got home after being admitted on Monday with high blood pressure, focus problems in my left eye, and balance problems.

After an MRI scan, the doctors determined that I had a transient ischemic attack (TIA). A TIA is a short period with symptoms similar to that of a stroke. Some people refer to it as a mini-stroke.

It’s caused by a brief blockage of blood flow to the brain and may have any of the following symptoms:

  1. Dizziness, a loss of balance, or difficulty walking.
  2. Numbness, muscle weakness, or tingling sensation on one side of the body.
  3. Trouble speaking or understanding speech.
  4. Double vision or trouble seeing in one or both eyes.

A TIA usually lasts a couple of minutes and does not cause any immediate permanent damage. I am very happy to hear that. However, it is a warning sign of possible future problems if lifestyle changes are not made.

Should you experience any of, or all of, the above-mentioned symptoms do not hesitate to see your doctor ASAP. Especially, if you are diabetic or have high blood pressure problems.
