My Medium Absence
I was in hospital for 3 days due to a mini-stroke.
I just got home after being admitted on Monday with high blood pressure, focus problems in my left eye, and balance problems.
After an MRI scan, the doctors determined that I had a transient ischemic attack (TIA). A TIA is a short period with symptoms similar to that of a stroke. Some people refer to it as a mini-stroke.
It’s caused by a brief blockage of blood flow to the brain and may have any of the following symptoms:
- Dizziness, a loss of balance, or difficulty walking.
- Numbness, muscle weakness, or tingling sensation on one side of the body.
- Trouble speaking or understanding speech.
- Double vision or trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
A TIA usually lasts a couple of minutes and does not cause any immediate permanent damage. I am very happy to hear that. However, it is a warning sign of possible future problems if lifestyle changes are not made.
Should you experience any of, or all of, the above-mentioned symptoms do not hesitate to see your doctor ASAP. Especially, if you are diabetic or have high blood pressure problems.
