The Tower lighthouse’s light glimmers softly in the early evening. Foamy white waves crash gently against the rocks. The snaking road leading to The Tower is deserted like it always is at this time of day.

The kettle’s whistle pierces the silent night, loudly. Ray fixed tea with no caffeine and put on some jazz, trying to stall as he prepped for the call.

His mind is a sponge filled with suitable words and phrases to use during the call. He rehearsed for an hour during his drive back to his home overlooking the bay. He wants his words to be pitch-perfect during the call.

Ray sips his tea absentmindedly. The soft smooth grooves of the instrumental jazz music in the background irritate him instead of relaxing him.

“Dammit,” he exclaims frustrated. He picks up his cell phone and strolls over to the window looking out at the bay.

“I better get this done. I can’t keep stalling. The night cleaners will arrive at the office within 2 hours,” he thinks calculatingly. His fingers tremble slightly as he dials his lawyer’s number.
