The Last Time
Trigger Warning: a domestic violence-related short story.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry,” the monster said, as he slid into bed next to her like a cold-blooded python.
His touch was chilling. She shivered from flu and fear. He didn’t care. He never did.
She drags herself away toward the other end of the bed. He grabs her arm. She screams.
The sound is a muffled sob as he clasps his hands over her mouth. His fingers tighten around her arm and she winces in pain.
“Don’t you dare to get away,” he sneers. She smells the alcohol on his breath. “He had a party again,” she thought.
“I will leave. I will never come back. This is the last time. At least he didn’t hurt Jimmy tonight,” she thinks as he stares into her tired eyes.
“Tomorrow Jimmy and I will go to live with my mom. Another country. Another life. Time to heal.”
