Upside Down, Inside Out

You turned my life into tons of puzzle pieces

Life made sense,
all was hunky-dory, A-okay.
Then, I heard your sensual voice —
I fell apart into a million
puzzle pieces,

my heart a young galloping stallion
my heart a blooming rose garden
my heart no longer cracked dry soil.
Nothing is the same anymore —
I long to hear your voice again,
melodies, promises, and new horizons
I hear in your voice…

Authors note:

I remember a time when I thought I was prone to love. Everything worked like a well-oiled machine.

Then I fell in love and everything was upside down.

The poem above was originally written in Afrikaans, my mother tongue. Below is the original Afrikaans version.

Rondomtalie Deurmekaar

My lewe het sin gemaak
alles loop mooi klop disselboom.
Toe hoor ek jou sensuele stem —
eweskielik, is ek n legkaart
in n-miljoene-stukkies hoop.
