The photo isn’t a clue, it’s a Dodo
I live in Mpumalanga or Limpopo
my tribe in both.

My grand papa’s papa spoke Nguni
was a descendant of the Musi people
once ruled by Shaka Zulu.

Our houses’ walls are decorated with
brightly coloured geometric patterns
inside and outside.

My tribe’s women used to wear neck rings
made from copper and brass when married
till I, the husband die.

The language I speak is one of the
official eleven spoken in South Africa
which tribe am I from?

Are you up for a challenge to identify the South African tribe I’m writing about in the poem? If so leave me a comment with the name of the tribe.

This story was inspired by A-Word-A-Day prompts for May 2022 — Day 15 (Tribe) published in Promptly Written. Thanks, Christine, and Ravyne.
