Beautiful scenery, azure skies,
nature bringing you to your knees
in a slight cool mountain breeze.

A sacred tribal site,
where magic ignites,
Ancestral heaven filled with wisdom.

A magic place,
a white crocodile space,
guarding ancestral spirits dwelling in the lake.

Young maidens,
sacrificed at midnight
not to displease the White Python Lake God.
A secret musical and dancing tribal festivity.

Lake Fundudzi in the Soutpansberg mountain range, in South Africa, is a sacred site for the Vhatatsindi people. They are called the “People of the Pool,” and guardians of the lake.

According to legend, this is home to the White Python God that rules the lake, the sky, and the weather. This lake is a mysterious phenomenon as three rivers flow into the lake but there is no outlet. However, the water level remains constant. It is believed that water drains away into an underground river.
